Sandro is a young tuscan artist with a strong personalità, who arrests the attentino and revives the immagination with his works.
In Sandro's work, thanks to the variety of themes and of the techniques and materials, ranging from sculpture in terracotta, plaster or bronze to painting, from drawinfg to mosaic work and photography, we have the opportunity of fixing moments of time and of making those moments come alive again in every single one of us with our feelings...
Finding oneself bifore works like those of Sandro in the modern world where the fast pace of things make us forget to listen to ourselves, i san invitation to concentration and to the rediscovery of images that are simple but rich with openings towards the profound.
From serenity and mysticism are born contradictoriness and pain. From the desire from the classical, we move freely towards touches of modernity, both fantastical and science fiction. From the balance and harmony of movements and expressions created by the artist's hand, we arrive at sensing controversy and intrigue. From the purest innocence and beauty, we come to have feelings of ambiguity, breakage, imperfection and of unsettling amazement.

In this way, the world of plastic modelling melds with those sign-dreams of those who intend to aim for a particolar "feeling".

“Of heart and mind” : the art of Sandro Ricci

An innate gift for moulding bodies is what immediately leaps out at the eye when looking at the sculptures of Sandro Ricci. Elegant, often disturbing, figures endowed with an arrogant sensuality, with shapes which are deliberately distorted, lengthened, and that assume improbable but natural positions, exasperated but pleasing twists. An artist, therefore, with an original plastic and thematic code. His modernity grafts onto his experience, which comes from the past and returns, revisited and used as a guide, to find new inspiration, to stir up emotions in a game of shapes and positions, instinctively measured out. Nothing appears constructed to us, every movement, every expression seems to flow forth unintentionally from the hand and the mind of the artist. This is the dominant characteristic of Sandro’s art that reflects, for those who have the pleasure of knowing him and spending time with him, his inclination for character and personality: naturalness, simplicity, authenticity. Because of this we can speak of art as a synthesis between that which Sandro really feels and that which he expresses through sculpture, of feeling and passion, of whim and emotion. There are many ideas that are realized in perfect figures: enigmatic women with hard features, almost ephebic with perfect supple bodies, disturbing young girls used as symbolic messages, male and female elements fused together in a single body, in a single thing. His is internal tumult which is transmitted to the material that is transformed into a new humanity seen through the eyes of the artist. These are the “Presences” in the garden and in the Atrio d’Onore of the Palazzo della Provincia, the places which are hosting the exhibition, and which we see with pleasure and wonder.
They are not works, things, objects, they are a mute humanity, but which communicates intimately with the environment and with us, and which, as happens only for what can be called Art, “speaks” to each person according to their own sentiment.

The deep friendship which ties me to Sandro Ricci dates back more than ten years, to when, one morning with a telephone call, he asked me if he could visit my sculpture studio...

...Afterwards, during the long days when we shared the hard work of the lost-wax fusion process, we realized that we also had many ideas in common about “making sculpture”...

...I, on the other hand, would like to conclude this greeting and expression of good wishes with a quotation from a passage by Ruskin that has over time contributed in moulding our way of making sculpture: “Adore a falcon as the Egyptians did and you will paint it as no-one who sees it as a feathered biped will ever paint it, because the ecstasy that you have felt will pass through your hands into your picture, and it will give you the power to communicate to others the same transportation.”
